By Sebastian Murphy-bates For Mailonline. The mother of a young girl left with horrific injuries when a firework exploded in her face has called for them to be banned from public sale. Little Maisie, now seven, suffered severe burns and will be scarred for life. Stephanie, 33, a police officer, later decided to release a shocking video of the explosion as a warning to other parents about the dangers of fireworks.

And ahead of Bonfire Night next week she has called on other supermarkets and stores to follow in the footsteps of Sainsburys by banning them from their shelves. She said: 'Fireworks are explosives and can be extremely dangerous and I still don't believe they should be readily available to the general public. Needless to say we are thrilled at Sainsbury's decision to remove them from general sale and more should follow their example.
After being injured Maisie was transferred to Bristol Hospital where she received treatment for her severe burns. Some of her horrific injuries are 'full-thickness' burns, that are likely to require skin grafts. Stephanie, of Combe Martin, Devon, added: 'There are amazing professional displays all over the country, please consider going to one of those as opposed to fireworks in the garden this year.
Although she will be scarred for life Stephanie says Maisie has made an 'amazing' recovery and doesn't have a 'care in the world'.

It comes as Sainsbury's is to stop selling fireworks following widespread concern for pets and the elderly. The supermarket says it will carry no fireworks in any of its 2, branches this year. And the move has been welcomed by shoppers and charities who say the bangers are outdated.
Lewis Hamilton brushes off critics and steps up efforts to be more green
It is against the law to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am except on special occasions including Bonfire Night and New Year's Eve. But some have called for a total ban because the loud bangs and flashing lights can be distressing for animals and older people and they are often linked to anti-social behaviour.
